Red Cross Classes
The Freeport Recreation Center through the American Red Cross now offers Water Safety Instructor Blended Learning. Blended learning combines online courses and on-site skill sessions where you will practice and demonstrate water safety competency. Please complete the initial online lessons prior to your first on-site skill session. 

Participants MUST register and complete the online courses prior to on-site training. To register, CLICK HERE. A $35.00 registration fee is required.

Wednesday: 4/12 - 10am-4am

Friday:  4/14 - 10am-4am
Saturday:  4/15 - 10am-12am

Please bring $250.00 in cash or check made out to “FREEPORT RECREATION” on the first day of class.

Be prepared to take the following pre-test to qualify for the class:

25 yards Freestyle
25 yards Backstroke
25 yards Breaststroke
25 yards Elementary Back Stroke
25 yards Side Stoke
15 yards Butterfly
1-minute tread
1-minute back float

Lifeguard Training

Cost:  $385.00 

This program provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and prevent aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Prerequisites :

1. Minimum age: 15

2. Swim 300 yards continuously (freestyle or breaststroke)

3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.

4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

- starting in the water; swim 20 yards,
- surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve  a 10-pound object (brick),
- return to the surface with the object,
- swim 20 yards on the back using legs only ( keep hands on object..swim no hands) to return to the starting point,
- exit the water with the object without using ladder or steps.

Pretest requires a bathing suit, towel, goggles (optional and recommended), picture ID and proof of DOB.
