Village Attorney

The Village Attorney serves as the Chief legal representative of the Village and provides legal advice to the Mayor, Village Board of Trustees, and all departments.

Duties

The Village Attorney:

  • Attends all Village Board meetings to advise on legal issues and questions
  • Represents the Village in all legal proceedings
  • Prepares legal opinions
  • Advises officials of changes to State or Federal laws affecting operations

In addition, the Village Attorney prepares and reviews various legal documents, including:

  • Contracts
  • Dedications of right-of-way
  • Deeds
  • Easements
  • Intergovernmental agreements
  • Leases
  • Ordinances
  • Resolutions

Furthermore, the Village Attorney and/or his deputies oversee the prosecution of all violations of the Village code and certain charges under the vehicle and traffic law of the State of New York.
